Glacier hike. Horseback Riding. |
The tour takes us eastbound towards the infamous Eyjafjallajökull volcano you should know so well from 2010. At the root of the volcano we find Seljalandsfoss waterfall were we take the opportunity to have a walk behind the falling stream.
Onward we go eastbound to the next stop Skógarfoss Waterfall, a powerful waterfall falling 60 meters in a free fall and is counted among the island‘s most beautiful waterfalls. In the vicinity of the waterfall we find Sólheimajökull running glacier were we have the opportunity to go on an hour and a half Glacier Hike if preferred.
Then the drive takes us off road into The Nature Reserve of Thorsmörk „Thor‘s woodland“ also known as The Land of The Gods, an inland birchwood valley at the root's of the volcano, surrounded by three glaciers and palagonite (tuff) mountains. On the way we need to cross glacier rivers making the terrain impassable except for fit four wheel drives... like our's of course. In the reserve we can enjoy a choise of short hikes if desired. A nicety for folks interested in unspoild nature and hikings.
Then back to civilization... sadly...
