Glacier lagoon sailing

Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is nesting under Vatnajökull, Europe‘s largest glacier and a part of Vatnajökull National Park. Here we get to take on to a nice sail on the lagoon… or to do some landing exercises either in inflatible rubber boats or Army Lark‘s amphibious landingcrafts being operated in the lagoon during summer.

A bit of a drive from Reykjavík, just over 1.000 km / 700 miles in total and as such probably more than a full day but a perfect two day tour with a one night stay in a hotel out in the countryside.

Sailing operations closed over winter and in september the staff who have been working fervently on the lagoon during the summer have their end of summer festivity. As it gets dark, the local rescue team lights up the ice on the lagoon and gives us a firework show. Then a true country ball to mix folks into the night. A once in a lifetime experience… at least once in the year experience.
